To Find Your Hardware Address

From time to time you may be asked to provide it in a field on a form, like a New Host Registration, for instance. Often called the Ethernet Address or MAC Address (Media Access Control), this 12-digit hexadecimal number string can be found a number of ways. One easy method is outlined here:

  1. Open System Preferences...

  2. Select "Network..."
  3. Make sure "Built-in Ethernet" is selected (NOT AirPort), and click the Configure... button near the bottom.

  4. Choose the "Ethernet" tab from the top row:

  5. Your Hardware Address is displayed here after "Ethernet ID:"
If you are trying to register a new computer, enter it into the Nodereg Form.

For platforms other than Macintosh computers, info on obtaining your MAC address can be found here.
