How to run Matlab from off campus:
1. To run Matlab on your computer from off campus you must first install VPN. Follow the step-by-step instructions listed on how to set up and use VPN. (NOTE: when you connect to the UCSD VPN, use the allthruucsd profile, not the split profile.)
2. Once you have connected to the UCSD VPN you can launch Matlab from your Applications folder.
TextWrangler:
TextWrangler is a powerful gerneral purpose text editor. One of its features allows you to convert a Word document to a plain text file that can be edited in Unix.1. Download and install the TextWrangler OS X disk image by dragging the application to your Applications folder.
2. Launch TextWrangler and open the Word file that you wish to convert.
3. From File > SaveAs > Options menu, select UNIX line break.
How to change your password:(OS 10.4 users: See Here)
If your current password has been set to the default:Please take a moment to change your password from the default (call x41753 if you don't know what the default password is). Accounts with default passwords is automatically locked after 7 days from the day of creation as well as accounts that have been inactive for 6 months.
1. Follow steps 1-2 on how to connect to a server here.
2. When you are prompted to enter your user name and password, click on the Options... button.
3. The following window will appear. Make sure that the Allow Clear Text Password box is not checked.
Click on Change Password...

4. Enter your old (current) password in the first text field. Enter and confirm your new password, and click on OK.
This will change your password on your machine as well as on the igpphome server.

Repairing a broken link in the Dock:
1. If an Application or a document in your dock has been deleted or moved, the icon may look something like this: 
2. To fix the link, first remove the icon from the dock. To do this, click on the icon and drag it away from the dock.
3. Locate the application/document and simply add its icon back onto the dock.
Removing and adding items to the sidebar in Finder:
If you see the following in the sidebar of a Finder window, you can easily replace them with your folders that are in your home directory.
1. In the Finder, go to your home directory by pulling down the Go menu and choosing Home.

2. Remove each of the folders with a minus sign from the left sidebar by dragging them out of the sidebar.
3. Now, drag any folder or document that you wish on to the sidebar.
Setting up additional IGPP printers:
Applies to 10.3 ONLY. Users of OS 10.4 should look to the other page.1. Open the System Preferences application.
2. Click on the Print & Fax icon.
3. Click on the Set Up Printers... button. This will launch the Printer Setup Utility.

4. In the Printer List window click on the Add icon located in the toolbar.
5. Choose AppleTalk from the pop-up menu.

6. Select the printer name that you wish to add and click on the Add button.

7. If you are using a laptop, then you will also need to add the same printer under IP Printing. Click on the Add icon again. Choose IP Printing from the pop-up menu.

In the Printer Address and Queue Name text fields enter the printer's address (printername.ucsd.edu). Select the model of the printer from the Printer Model pull down menu. If you do not know the model of the printer, you can look it up here. Click on the Add button to add the printer.
Setting the path for TeXshop
1. Open TeXshop program and go to preferences.

2. In the preferences window click on the engine tab and change the path settings to /sw/bin.

What to do when the "Workgroup Management" window pops up at login.
Uncheck the top box which says "Enable Workgroup Management". And Then check the bottom box that says "Remember my preference". If you want to access the Workgroup Management screen again, hold down the option key while you log in.
